UK surveys reveal top summer festivals
Britain is known for our iconic music events. But this year UK surveys have revealed the top festivals of 2017 – and they are all over the globe.
Many of the newly voted ‘best festivals’ in the world, according to UK surveys, are across the pond in the good old USA. Boston Calling, FYF Sound in LA, and Outside Lands in San Francisco all went storming into the 2017 top 10. The festivals combine a whole host of music styles, with everyone from Metallica to Solange Knowles appearing for fans.
It’s great to see though that many of the top festivals outside the UK are hosting some brilliant UK bands on their headline sets: including The Who and Ed Sheeran.
A surprising entry in the global top 10 is Fuji Rock, in the beautiful Naeba Ski Resort in Japan. With the likes of The XX, Queens of the Stone Age and Bjork on the list, it’s no wonder this stunning location is catching the eye of many a music fan the world over.
The best news for UK music fans though? Good old Glastonbury was voted no.1 in the world. Still. The stonking sets of this year’s festival will no doubt go down in history as one of the best. (Just don’t expect it to top next year’s list as there isn’t another festival until 2019 – got to let the fields rest, you know.) Perhaps that is what makes Glastonbury the best festival in the world. Not just the amazing line-up, nor the sheer size of the place with everything under the sun – but that music is in its very bones. The soil vibrates when people jump to The Killers, the trees are filled with streamers and onlookers who couldn’t get tickets, and the festival takes over the entire local area for weeks at a time. It is steeped in musical history, and the modern meets the ancient in the shadow of the nearby tor. Glastonbury is legendary, and deserves to be number one on anybody’s list.
